Project Overview
In August 2020, we completed a bespoke residential solar installation featuring cutting-edge solar tile technology in Devon. The homeowner wanted a clean, unobtrusive renewable energy solution that blended seamlessly with the property’s roofline while still delivering meaningful energy generation. The result was a fully integrated solar roof using Ergosun solar tiles, complemented by a hybrid inverter and compact battery storage system.

System Details

  • Solar Tiles: 420 × Ergosun 15W Building-Integrated PV Tiles
  • Solar Inverter: 1 × Solis 5.0kW Hybrid Inverter
  • Battery Storage: 1 × Pylontech US2000C-Plus 2.4kWh Li-ion Battery
  • Total Solar Capacity: 6.3kWp
  • Storage Capacity: 2.4kWh

Client Objectives
The homeowner was undertaking a re-roofing project and saw an opportunity to embed renewable technology directly into the structure of the home without compromising aesthetics. Key goals included:

  • Enhancing the home’s energy efficiency
  • Reducing long-term electricity bills
  • Preserving the architectural integrity of the roof
  • Gaining some level of energy independence with battery support
  • Reduce carbon footprint

Solution & Installation
We supplied and installed 420 Ergosun solar tiles across the south-facing roof. These solar tiles function both as a weatherproof roofing solution and an energy generator, with a sleek appearance that matches traditional roofing materials.

The system was paired with a Solis 5.0kW hybrid solar inverter to manage power conversion and system performance, along with a 2.4kWh Pylontech battery to store surplus energy for use during evening hours. The hybrid setup enables limited backup functionality and maximises on-site energy consumption.

Results & Performance
Since installation, the homeowner has reported a noticeable reduction in grid energy use, particularly during spring and summer months when solar production is highest. The battery storage system provides evening support for lighting and appliances, helping offset peak-rate electricity charges. The homeowner also benefits from export payments via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
