Project Summary
At the end of 2024 we supplied the installation of a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system at a commercial premises in Barnstaple, Devon. Designed to maximise on-site energy generation and reduce long-term electricity overheads, this project demonstrates how high-capacity solar installations can be effectively integrated into commercial operations without the need for battery storage.
System Specification
Project Goals
The client sought a dependable and efficient renewable energy solution to reduce dependency on grid electricity and to hedge against rising energy costs. With ample roof space available and consistent daytime energy demand, the site was ideal for a high-output PV-only system.
Installation Approach
Our engineering team designed a bespoke layout to maximise panel density while ensuring optimal tilt and spacing for year-round performance. We selected Trina’s 425W solar modules for their proven efficiency and reliability, paired with Fronius’ robust inverter technology for smooth grid-tied integration and advanced remote monitoring capabilities.
The system feeds directly into the site’s existing three-phase electrical infrastructure, displacing a substantial portion of imported electricity during operational hours.
Outcome
Since the system went live in 2024, it has been delivering strong generation figures aligned with projections. On clear days, the solar array meets a large share of the site’s electricity needs, with any surplus exported to the grid under the client’s export tariff agreement. Early data suggests the system will significantly reduce annual grid consumption and deliver an impressive return on investment within the forecast payback period.
